The GBJT Gold Coin donation for The Claire Ollier Appeal was a great success with over $450 raised over the last two weekends.  We very much appreciate everyone's support for Claire and further details can be found on her Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/theclaireollierappeal

GBJT 's Annual General Meeting is to be held at 3.30pm on Saturday 29 March 2014 at the Queensland Tennis Centre.  We welcome any parents who are able to attend and contribute to the running of the GBJT club. 

One of our GBJT players, Claire Ollier (Level 4, 2012 and 2013), sister of Liam Ollier (2011, 2012, 2013), was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year.  She has been receiving treatment but needs to travel to the USA for further treatment.  GBJT is hoping to raise some funds for the family by asking players for a gold coin donation over the next 2 weeks at tennis fixtures.  For further information, please read The Claire Ollier Appeal Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/theclaireollierappeal

GBJT got off to a great start last Saturday with the weather being very pleasant and not too hot.

If you need the team draw sent to you again, please let us know.  It is important to have the Team and Parent Roster information handy. The draw also has information about the procedures to follow if you need to find a fill in.

Some Captains have had difficulties contacting team members, so if you have not heard from your captain, please contact him/her and maybe give an alternate phone number or email address and the best time of contact.

Parents are reminded to know their Roster dates.  Having a parent supervising on each court each week helps the afternoon run smoothly and makes the play more enjoyable for the players.  If there are any problems on court, please let the Centre Supervisor know as soon as possible.
 

Entries for Season 1, 2014 Tennis Fixtures is now closed.  Team draws and information will be emailed to all players early next week.  Fixtures commence on Saturday 22 February.  We look forward to welcoming our returning and new players to a great season of GBJT tennis fixtures.

The Grading Day for New Players will be held on Sunday 9 February 2014 between 3pm to 5pm at the Queensland Tennis Centre, Tennyson.  Enrolment forms will be available at grading although completion of the on-line enrolment before Grading Day will facilitate a quicker grading process.  Look forward to welcoming our new players to GBJT on Grading Day.

New players to GBJT will need to attend our Grading Day which is to be held on Sunday 9 February 2014 between 3pm to 5pm at the Queensland Tennis Centre, Tennyson.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to a great season of tennis with GBJT.

It was a hot and fine day for our Finals Day at both the QTC and UQ Centres and fittingly we had many close matches to determine the results for the day!  It was great to see so many family and friends come out and support the players on the day and the enjoyment and spirit in which the finals were played is a credit to our players.  Well done to all! 

Our players and parents enjoyed the family BBQ, drinks and the Presentation of Trophies and Awards at the conclusion of play.  Our Winner’s, Runners-up and Best of the Rest received their trophies and the awards were given to our Sportsmanship and Most Improved recipients.  We have included a list of the results below.  Our winning families for the GBJT end of year raffle were as follows:

A special thank you for all our parents and helpers who made the day run so smoothly and made it such an enjoyable event for all.  We thank all our players and parents and trust you had an enjoyable season of tennis with GBJT and look forward to welcoming many of you back next year.  We also hope many of you get to the Brisbane International and see the likes of Roger Federer, Serena Williams and many other great players in action.

We will be sending an email out in January to let you know when the enrolment form is ready for the next season.  The next season will start in February, 2014.  All the best for the rest of the year and enjoy the Christmas break.

Season 2, 2013 Semi-Finals and Finals:

Semi-Finals will be held Saturday 2 November with all teams playing and at normal venues and start times.

Finals Day will commence at 1pm on Saturday 9 November and will include the free family BBQ and drinks, presentation of trophies, awards and the drawing of the end of yesr raffle.

It is important all players and parents read the emails sent out this week and next week in regard to semi-finals and finals.  If you have any questions please contact your Captain or ring Peter and Peta Davis.

We encourage everyone and their families to attend finals day which is great fun and enjoyable for all!

Tickets are now available for the end of season raffle with prizes worth over $3,000, including a Brisbane Select Finals Package for both Men's and Women's Final, including corporate dining for dinner and lunch ($1,360) and a 'money can't buy' experience before play on the Sunday.  Full details of prizes are set out below.  Tickets are: 1 ticket = $5, 3 tickets = $10 and 6 tickets = $20.  Tickets will be drawn on Finals Day after the Presentation of Awards and Trophies.

The 2013 GBJT Annual Doubles Tournament was held on 13 October on a perfect day at the UQ Tennis Centre.  With over 80 players competing on the day we saw some great tennis and very close results to determine our winners and runners-up on the day.  It was great to see so many players compete and enjoy themselves and a special thank you to the parents who helped out on the day.  The results for the day were as follows:

Season 2 fixtures commenced on 3 August.  Team draws and fixture details have been emailed to all Players.  We wish all our players and Parents an enjoyable season with GBJT. 

Enrolments for Season 2, 2013 are now closed. Team draws and information about the season will be emailed to Players and Parents the week before fixtures commence on Saturday 3 August 2013.

The Season 2 2013 grading day for new players of GBJT fixtures will be held on Sunday 21 July 2013.  Grading will be held at the Queensland Tennis Centre, Tennyson between 3pm to 5pm.  Enrolments are best to be completed on line before grading day or alternatively can be completed at grading day.

On-Line entries for Season 2 2013 of GBJT tennis fixtures are now open for new and returning players. 

The GBJT annual Family Fun Day (club members only) for all family members (parents, players, siblings, etc) will be held at UQ from 2.30pm to 5.30pm on 15 June 2013.

This is a great chance for GBJT family members to come together and enjoy the opportunity to play some social tennis and catch up with other GBJT families!  The day caters for all levels of tennis from beginners to advance with the focus more on enjoyment than competitive play.  For this event, Saint Lucy Café will be providing catering and for those at the event last year will remember how enjoyable the food and drinks during the afternoon were.  Some surprise awards and gifts will be made on the day!

An email will be sent out shortly to our members for this special event and hope you can join us on this day which is a most enjoyable event for all.
 

We had a great finals day on Saturday 1 June at both the Queensland Tennis Centre and UQ to finish season 1, 2013!

It was great to see the spirit and sportsmanship in which the matches were played.  So many of the matches were very close with many winners determined on count-back or by 1 game reflecting how close each of the teams are!  During the afternoon, players and parents enjoyed the BBQ and drinks followed by the presentation of trophies and awards to our players. Our annual singles tournament winners were presented with their perpetual trophy, followed by the team trophies and awards for sportsmanship and most improved.  Our raffle was drawn at the end of the presentation with our winners as follows:

First Prize - James Sa, Second Prize - Anna Ruddell, Third Prize - Melissa Chapman 

A special thank you to all our Replacement Contacts, Level Co-Ordinators and parents who helped out on the day with the set-up, BBQ, selling raffle tickets, etc.  This support, together with the spirit and sportsmanship in which the players participate in our fixtures is what make GBJT the special club it is.  Also thank you to our Sponsors - Head Sporting Products, UQ Sports and Saint Lucy Cafe.

We hold a free family fun day at UQ on 15 June from 2.30 to 5.30.  This is a fun event for all family members which includes catering by ‘Saint Lucy’ and further details will be provided by email shortly.

Season 2, commences on 3 August and enrolments will open in July.

A beautiful Sunday morning greeted our players and parents for the start of the GBJT Annual Singles tournament held at the Queensland Tennis Centre at Tennyson.  With over 70 players competing, we had some great matches and very close results to determin our winners on the day.  We congratulate everyone for the great tennis on the day and a special thanks to our parents who helped out on the day.  The results for the day were as follows:

Singles Tournament 2013

The Semi-finals, (25th May) will be played at the same venue and time as usual and one player will have a bye as usual.  Captains will choose their best team for the Semi-finals and the player on bye for the Semi-finals must play on Finals' Day.  The list of semi-finals matches will be emailed next week.  If a replacement player is required for the semi-finals or finals, he/she must be graded at the same level or below as the person being replaced. Each team is required to allocate one parent to supervise for each of the Semi-final and Final matches.

Final's Day, (1st June) will start at the earlier time of 1:00 pm so that play can be completed for the presentation of trophies and awards at 4:30 pm.  The Finals will be played at the Queensland Tennis Centre at Tennyson while the play-offs for the Best of the Rest will be played at either Tennyson or the UQ Centre at St Lucia. 

There will be a free BBQ for GBJT players and their families at Tennyson on Finals' Day.
 

The Annual GBJT GBJT singles tournament is to be held on Sunday 19 May commencing at 8am at the Queensland Tennis Centre.  Good luck to all of our players competing!
